A long-time volunteer gives in more ways than one

Donna Guariglia has been a long-time USA Hockey volunteer. She didn’t play the game herself until she was in her mid-30s, but having grown up around it and having two sons who played hockey, it made sense for her to become involved with the local New Jersey Colonials as board president. She is now in her second term as the director of the girls/women’s section for USA Hockey.

Donna is also a member of the Circle of Champions of The USA Hockey Foundation, meaning she makes a donation of $1,000 or more yearly. “I am a big believer that when you are in a leadership role and have the ability, you should help out financially. That’s how you get others to follow your lead.” She also knows how important it is for everyone to participate in fundraising campaigns. “Having been involved in fundraising my whole life, I know that participation is key. If everyone could give $25 to the Foundation, that would be huge,” says Guariglia.

Though Guariglia’s passion is girls and women’s hockey, having helped start the Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey League, as well as being a strong advocate for not only female athletes, but for female coaches, she still sees the need to make donations to the Foundation’s general fund. “I look at the big picture. The people who run the foundation know where to put the funds to the best use possible, to share the wealth across all disciplines of hockey,” said Guariglia.
