COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Hockey Foundation will launch its It Starts With A Stick campaign tomorrow (Nov. 29) with the intent of raising funds to put 12,000 sticks into the hands of new hockey players during Hockey Week Across America, which takes place Feb. 19-26, 2017.

The campaign's launch date coincides with #GivingTuesday, a recent tradition and global celebration dedicated to giving back and celebrating generosity. The end goal is to raise $150,000 by December 31 to fund the initiative. For every $12.50 donated, one stick will be purchased.

“We've had great success with this program over the first two years and we look to continue that momentum and help new kids try hockey and grow their passion for the sport," said Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey and The USA Hockey Foundation. "The support of hockey fans across the country has been inspiring, and to see these individuals ignite the love of hockey in these young players has been marvelous."

Those who are interested in learning more or making a donation to It Starts With A Stick, can visit usahockeyfoundation.com/sticks. The campaign's progress will be tracked there and on USA Hockey's social media accounts (Twitter and Facebook) with the #GiftAStick hashtag.
