We are thankful and fortunate to have John and Johanna in our hockey family and we wanted to share Johanna’s story with you

Johanna Boynton, fan, friend, and impactful donor to The USA Hockey Foundation and the U.S. Women’s National Team, expressed why hockey holds such a special place in her heart and for her family. We are thankful and fortunate to have John and Johanna in our hockey family and we wanted to share Johanna’s story with you:

“It’s impossible for me not to get excited about the impressive growth of women’s ice hockey and the impressive young athletes playing the game. I strapped on my first pair of hockey skates in 1973 in Philadelphia. I was 7 years old and did not know any other girls who skated with hockey skates. There were no girls teams on which to play. The Philadelphia Flyers had just won their first Stanley Cup and I had watched every game. At the time, I skated on ponds with my (boy) friends playing pickup hockey. Fast-forward 44 years to today. After being part of the first girls hockey team at my high school (they only let us skate on the pond my freshman year, not in the rink), to playing in the early years of women’s hockey in college, to leading the Friends Group after graduating, to billeting four-time U.S. Olympian Julie Chu for several months prior to the 2014 Sochi Olympics and spending many fun ‘family’ dinners with Olympians around our dining room table, it’s been a blast.”

John and Johanna Boynton, Trustee Level donors, continue to be champions for raising support and awareness for our U.S. Women’s National Team. Most recently, they have initiated a matching gift challenge for the Friends of Women’s Hockey Fund, which matches, dollar-for-dollar, donations made to the fund up to $5,000. If you would like to learn more about supporting the Friends of Women’s Hockey Fund and the upcoming special events leading up to PyeongChang, please contact Tamara Tranter at Tamara.Tranter@usahockey.org or 719-538-1164.
