The USA Hockey Foundation is saddened by the loss of Bill “Billy” LeRoy, and is honored to be the recipient for donations made in memory of Bill.
Bill LeRoy was in his 18th season as the team’s video coach for the Grand Rapids Griffins. He was responsible for tracking on-ice systems and data during games for the two-time Calder Cup champions.
Prior to joining the organization in 2001, LeRoy worked 18 seasons as video coach for the IHL’s Kalamazoo Wings, where he compiled statistics for future NHL coaches Ken Hitchcock, Claude Noel and Jim Playfair. He had the opportunity to work with another NHL coach in-the-making, the Red Wings’ Jeff Blashill, from 2012-15 on the Griffins’ coaching staff.
LeRoy lived in Kalamazoo with his daughter, Becca, a student at Michigan State University. His son, Tyler, was a longtime Griffins locker room attendant and is set to graduate from Lake Superior State University in May 2020.
