Lane MacDonald, a Harvard University hockey alumnus and Hobey Baker award recipient, lives in Weston, Massachusetts, with his wife, Wendy, and three children. MacDonald, a 1988 U.S. Olympian, is president and chief investment officer of a large family office based in Boston. He also helps coach his 12-year-old son’s youth hockey team.

“I was really fortunate to have great coaches when I played youth hockey,” said MacDonald. “I think it’s important to teach the fundamentals of the game – skating, shooting, stick handling. I want to help teach the kids hockey sense.”

When asked what he hopes his son gains from hockey, MacDonald said he sees the sport as a great way to learn important life lessons.

“You learn to be a team player and to be a leader,” said MacDonald. “I want him to learn how treat people around the rink, like the officials, the people who work at rink and the opponent.”

As an investment manager, MacDonald was asked to serve on The USA Hockey Foundation’s investment committee.
“I help oversee the investment strategy of the Foundation’s endowment,” he said. “The committee helps make sure that the capital raised in the past is invested in a productive way.”

In addition to the time he volunteers to further the sport of hockey, he and his wife are members of the Circle of Champions, The USA Hockey Foundation’s leadership giving club. MacDonald said that he feels it’s important to give back because of the opportunities he was given through USA Hockey.

“USA Hockey does great things, and Wendy and I are happy and honored to support the cause.”
