October Saves Goalie Challenge which encourages youth netminders to gather pledges and donations for each save they make during Breast Cancer Awareness month

Lara’s League, a D.C. area non-profit, donated $5,000 to The USA Hockey Foundation’s Goaltending Excellence Fund through its October Saves Goalie Challenge which encourages youth netminders to gather pledges and donations for each save they make during Breast Cancer Awareness month. The event has two missions: raise money to fight cancer and support the Goalie Nation by teaching athletes to be leaders on the ice and in their communities.

In 2017, 685 goalies from across North America participated in the event including NHL netminders Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer and Jake Allen.

“USA Hockey appreciates the meaningful donation from the October Saves Initiative.  It provides support for our Goaltending Development Coordinator Program and other grass roots goaltending programs.  We look forward to building a world leading environment for youth hockey goaltenders.” Phil Osaer, ADM Manager for Goaltending.
